As vague and hippie-like as the title may sound, I raise this topic to address some serious issues:
I have mentioned in a previous argument that there are a great deal of difficulties which arise from having a club that accommodates both recreational and professional archers, and as mentioned in that argument while we care for both, being a university sports club, we need to run the club to the standards of the latter.
Something I have tried to encourage throughout the year is to generate a sense a team spirit throughout the club. Yes, archery is an individual sport, but at the same time, the minute you are part of a club you become part of the larger picture. While your performance is up to yourself, as part of a team you gain the responsibility of maintaining the club's spirit, professional behaviour and performance. I know that when we are at practice, we mess around a lot, say some really stupid things, etc... Those are all internal things though. The minute an action reflects towards the outside, you should realise that a different sort of behaviour is in order.
I raise this point because on certain occasions, this hasn't been the case. While no serious damage was done, I really would like you all to have a think about this. In every club situation ask yourself: Will my actions reflect badly on the outside perception of the club? This is covered by things like: Wearing the uniform, acting and behaving professionally at competitions, helping each other out, not undermining each other in public, only speaking well of the club, even if it is not always 100% true, etc
Most of these points are covered regularly, and I am very proud of where the club is heading. Regardless, I would like you all to keep this in mind. DUAC has risen up again from some major crippling events, and I'd hate to see that progress hindered on small avoidable things.
Thanks for the effort and input everyone,
Flo
