So ppl, there has been talk of playing some Volleyball instead of Basketball at some point.
You guys still up for that? And if so, when is the earliest you'd be available to play?

If anyone's got any questions about volleyball, the person to ask is Alex ^^ He's a pro!

Well, hope to hear from you all, and hopefully this gets underway soon enough. Volleyball's an awesome sport.. with no running, haha, the thing that catches most of us out during basketball.

One of the many healthy activities and sports that some of us archers do is Volleyball. Since some of us have a Gym+ membership at the ISE, we can book a hall (full court or half court, even though its usually the second of the two) for any day when it's available. Anyone's welcome to join really, as long as they have access to the sports halls.. If not, then it'll cost £5 entrance fee.. but if you beg nicely I'm sure it can be arranged for the costs to be split between everyone or something.

Details

Time: ~Saturday 11-12
Place: Sport's Halls (old)

Level: [x][x][.]

Time for this one really depends on hall availability.

Volleyball sessions are quite relaxed, with most of us missing the ball anyways.. not that I'm looking at Gary or anything. When thinking about impressive volleyball moves, I think Alex managed a really sweet spike once.. Haha, and Simon who seems to take Newton's Laws of Energy way too seriously and is launched back everytime the ball collides off him ^^. So yeah, you get the picture.. Its a great laugh

When starting a Volleyball thread: Name the topic "VB: ..." so that it can be identified propperly ^^

Cheers,

Flo

avoiding reference to any perverted thoughts, volleyball sounds like a good change of pace - it has a ball like basketball, and it has the chance to jump up, hit it really hard and smack someone in the face like badminton.

Well, as a concluding report I gotta say that was pretty damn fun! ^^

I for my part enjoyed it greatly. Volleyball seems to be the sport which you get your heart rate up and blood pumping while at the same time not ending up completely out of breath. That's been my problem with basketball.. it was too much exercise, resulting in me having to rest for an hour after it, and that's too much time wasted. Volleyball though leaves you pumped and ready to start off into an awesome day.

I'll admit though, some of the hits to the ball stung quite a bit.. haha.

Well, hope you all enjoyed that and that you'll join me next time again. This time hopefully with more people around to fill the court.

That was very good. Multiple injuries aside i would say it was better than basketball.

The difference in players was somewhat annoying but that was balanced out by both their teamwork - they got some decent volleys going with great ball control, and our 'lack of practice', eg. my accuracy was poor with most of my digs sailing out of the court, usually in the wrong direction entirely. If we can get 8 or 10 people it will be better, maybe my accuracy will improve as i'm no longer distracted by my sense of fairness and equality.

So, when are we next playing...

Just wondering if anybody's planned anything for this saturday? Or weekend for that matter?
Anything healthy on?

This weekend (the sunday to be precise) is the end of term party/bbq. And I think JL and Gary, with or without RP/chloroformed RP, are going to Cage on Saturday. they might go to the union beforehand.

Hey Everyone,
long dead topic has to be revived today, as we decided to go and try out how much of non existent volleyball skills have we lost during the semester.
The idea is to play volleyball on sunday 21st of november, next weekend. Anyone care to join? Please comment on this topic so we can see if the time is good for anyone, the first idea is around 10 in the morning but this can change.
Who is up for it?
