Here's a topic for ppl to suggest different sports we could try out during our Weekend Sports Sessions.
For those who haven't tagget along yet, its usually just a bunch of us palying some kind of sport. Though it's a fair workout (dun think we're all that lazy) its also more of a social and enjoyable occasion.. Something to get your blood pumping a bit.

Sports we've tried so far:

Badminton
Basketball
Volleyball

Got any other sports you think we should try out as a team?

(Also, for those of you who've been along, feel free to write a little review on the different sports we did. Something to help the others get a picture and possibly come along next time ^^)

I suppose it would be cruel not to tell the N00bs what they're getting into.

Badminton - the aim of the game is to hit the opponent with a shuttlecock. Sophie is good to have on your team as she seems to attract them, though I would be a close second, being the only person to be hit by a team mate... in the face.

Basketball - a chance to let out pent up sexual frustration. In game terms keeping your body between the opponent and the ball is a good thing, if only there was a way to do it without leaving yourself vulnerable to a rear assault.

Volleyball - As with the other sports we have tried, this too is highly dangerous (ask LA). It's especially sore on the wrists and, if your 'enthusiastic', any other part of the body.

Crap, I just re-read what Flo said.

Oh well...

As to suggestions;

  • how about golf, nothing could go wrong there (and i mean wrong in multiple ways, i.e. Flo's T-shirt)((This is not a serious suggestion)).
  • I like Flo's idea of tennis (not that the shuttlecock didn't quite hurt enough)
  • Is pool a sport? I also don't know wether it should be listed under healthy stuff but it's fun...

Bah don´t listen to Simon he just has phobia of any sports that involving some movement.

Well I haven´t tried badminton so i can´t really say something about it.

Basketball is quite fun although since the turn out is not that big we have to run ALOT so it would be great for more ppl to come along so we don´t have to run so much. You see Simon when you say things like that about basketball you shouldnt be surprised than not a single girl turns up (understandable Razz)

Volleyball is quite a good sport and I definetely recommend, it doesn´t require as much running, its pretty safe and its great fun!! Additionally it´s a non-contact sport which means you shouldnt be afraid of discoordinated ppl crashing into you (hmm... then again..) You may get some sore wrists but once you get the hang of the techniques that won´t happen again. Both guys and girls have turned out so far so dont worry you won´t be the only boy/girl there.

As for suggestions i have a couple:

Handball - It´s a very cool sport that not many ppl have tried so it would be good fun to try it out

Football - we never tried this... I´m a crappy player but it would be cool to do it once in a while

Netball - kinda like basketball but different... im not sure about rules...

Ultimate frisbee - then again something different that i´m not sure about the rules but we can check anyway

Let me know what you think.

You weren't at those earlier basketball sessions, though I'll admit they have improved somewhat and they are pretty tiring (especially when you're small). Girls haven't turned up to begin with, my comments will only advise those considering it of the risks. And i'm not surprised because to choose not to come is a perfectly rationable and logical decision, we're the insane ones.

As to volleyball, it's easy to get discoordinated in the heat of the moment , you do spend most of your time looking up after all.

Handball - don't know much about that.

Football is a good idea, indoor or out, i'll just try and find some decent gloves. Due to my social standing i'm used to being in goals.

Netball doesn't use a backboard like basketball so it's theoretically harder to score. I also think you're not allowed to move with the ball so it involves more passing and teamwork but don't quote me on this. It sounds like a good alternative to basketball every now and then.

I don't like frisbee, it always goes off to the right (just like my golf with the driver)

Morning,

As a modification of netball, id suggest Towerball .. its pretty much the same but theres no rules with having specialised shooters.

Id been thinking of suggesting ultimate frisbee (indoors - easier and less running) - i think itd be like volleyball - in that folk would hav to learn the techniques -- so the frisbee doesnt always go to the right, for example -- i just wasnt sure of suggesting it cos there is potential to get smacked in the face with the disc .. It is none contact but u can still get v close when defending , if u wish

Id also like to know what handball is.

Indoor football would be good if we got the numbers.

Driving range?
